About Mark
Born in the deep south of the South Island of New Zealand (think Lord of the Rings landscapes), I grew up enjoying the outdoors. Spiritual home is Nelson, at the top of the South Island, a region with beaches, mountains and the most sunshine hours per annum, where I spent my teenage years. I've also lived in Rotorua (surrounded by hot mud pools) and Auckland (sitting on sixty dormant and extinct volcanoes – yes, count them!) but then took the epic journey to London six years ago to establish a base from which to explore Europe. Traveling is in my blood – my mother originally came from the Netherlands (at the age of eight) and I'm happiest on the move. A couple of years ago my wife and I spent six months backpacking through South East Asia, Australia & New Zealand, and South America (attached profile pic is from a boat to Ilha Grande in Brazil)– and would love to that all again although now more difficult with a six month old in tow. Professionally I studied marketing and business development, and have worked in retail, banking, luxury goods importing, television and digital media – always bringing a natural curiosity and innovative lens to customer experiences and solutions.

Whose career do you admire?
I've been a long time admirer of Seth Godin -  first coming across his work via his third book Permission Marketing published in 1999. I find that his insight and ability to succinctly articulate this, regularly inspire and challenge me. He is a talented and prolific author with at least 15 titles in print – each which shift the marketing conversation. Not only that, but he's created a number of business ventures, offered an alternative MBA program, successfully experimented with crowd-funding a book project, established a community/wiki website which is amongst the top 500 visited websites globally while his blog is ranked the number 1 marketing blog by Adage.

What’s a favourite book of yours?
Life of Pi by Yann Martel – I love the natural curiosity Piscine has about life and belief.

What are you passionate about outside of your work life?
My wife and young son are important to me – so I'm passionate about spending quality time with them, whether at home or out exploring the world
