I have been with Getty Images for 15 years and I oversee its historical content. That’s about 400 photographers plus, making sure we are digging around the right places amongst our own 80 million images. You might be amazed to find out what’s there and how much we bring to light each day.
Outside of photography many moons ago, I used to have a record deal with a band and music is still a very big part of my life. So I have fun now with Cubase via all that binary stuff. Crafting that kind of thing outside of a band framework has some interesting parallels with photography.
I relocated from London to NYC last year so it’s been a huge rush and a huge learning curve. I have been lucky to have met the most amazing photographers and getting to grips with NY's photo culture has been fantastically informative. So with one grand sweep - if it’s black and white and in NYC, I want to know about it.
What excites you about photography?
Engaging with new perspectives on the past is a given of course - but looking the other way, we are living in the most extraordinary times for photography - where talent meets technology - the possibilities are just incredible.
What advice would you give your 18 year old self?
Embrace it all - and that really does include TS Eliot's plays.
How do you like to spend Sundays?
Right now I still feel new in town, so I'm still exploring NYC. I'm perfectly happy roaming with an iPhone camera, an idea for dinner and drinks and a random cab thrown in for good measure.
