Meet one of the UK's most celebrated photographers, in conversation with Matthew Butson of the Getty Images Hulton Archive. Here, Terry O’Neil talks about his career, the people he’s worked with and his methods….

Londoner O'Neill is well known for his iconic portraits of film stars, musicians and sports personalities, photographed during a career spanning five decades, with highlights including studies of Muhammad Ali, Michael Caine and Raquel Welch.

O'Neill explains, "I was working on films for two or three weeks at a time and that way I got friendly with the stars and spent as much time as I could with them. This meant I got an insight into my subjects as real people and not just as icons. I think this dimension is really interesting, particularly with photographers' access to celebrities being limited more and more."
