As one of the heads of the global Creative Research team, Pam has unique insight into the meaning, application and impact of imagery – photographs, illustration and film. Using the information derived from researchers around the world and custom-designed forecasting methods, plus the wealth of data generated by www.gettyimages.com, Pam is able to identify—and works to help shape—the visual language of tomorrow. This visual trend research provides advertising, marketing and publishing professionals with imagery that resonates strongly with their target audiences and helps build the profile of their businesses, products and communications.
Pam joined Getty Images in 2003 and is frequently invited to speak and consult on visual trends at Fortune 500 companies and conferences, including Google’s in-house global creative team, Sheryl Sandberg’s LeanIn.Org female empowerment nonprofit, Microsoft, MasterCard, American Express, Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN), The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, MetLife, Bank of America, Fidelity, SxSW, The Atlantic’s New York Ideas Conference, HOW Design Conference, American Marketing Association and the NewsCred Content Marketing Summit.
Pam and her work with Getty Images and LeanIn.Org, which led to the creation of the widely publicized Lean In image collection, have featured in The New York Times, AdAge, Wired, Buzzfeed, The Washington Post, The Seattle Times, The British Journal of Photography, Mashable, Jezebel, and on CBS This Morning, HuffPost LIVE, NPR’s Morning Edition and BBC World News.
Pam is a graduate of New York University with a degree in Cultural Anthropology.
Pam remembers her first camera
"The first camera I ever bought for myself was a Polaroid in the 1990’s – a believe it was a Polaroid 600. It was a self-consciously retro thing to do, essentially the grunge-era version of using an Instagram filter. My friends and I would dress up in outlandish outfits and make-up and do our own quasi-avant-guard shoots: at least we felt very edgy at the time! The shoots were very prop-heavy: masks were a crucial component, as I recall. And we’d blast mix-tapes and shoot pictures of each other and attempt to make New Jersey suburbia feel like a far more fantastical place than it actually was. While the photos might not have won us any awards, they were good fun to make, and a godsend for a gaggle of oddballs trying desperately to combat jr. high ennui."
