Packing for a big event is never easy especially when you're away for almost a month.

So I'm off to Sochi, Russia for the Winter Olympics today and making my final decisions what to leave behind and what to bring.

My usual kit includes 2x Canon EOS 1dx bodies, 16-35mm, 24-70mm, 70-200mm, 300mm, 400mm lenses. For this trip I'm travelling with a 500mm too and a few extra bodies/lenses for remotes. Along with the remotes are mini tripods, clamps and cables.

That's the equipment sorted but working in the cold conditions requires warm clothing. Packing two coats, a fleece, thick socks, sallapettes, crampons, gloves, wooly hat and boots are all essential. Standing in the freezing cold hours on end high up a mountain is tough. The trick is to be prepared and pack some feet and hand warmers too.

That's me all packed.

Looking forward to an enjoyable and safe Olympic Games.
