Masaaki Kobayashi, Art Director, Getty Images on Kohei’s Image below:

“Kohei’s work stands out because he’s able to find and capture the universal, true and beautiful moments of everyday life. He rarely hires professional models – most of the time working with friends and family, enabling him to capture emotional connections in an authentic way. I love this image in particular, a story of passing on skills and knowledge between generations – emotional yet understated.”

Kohei Hara on his work
“I wanted to visualize simple pleasure using local cultural background with the following concept; authenticity, connection, childhood and so on.”

Local inspiration
“In my work I focus on capturing the relationships between people, nature and traditions. The connection to nature and our cultural heritage are strong influences in Japanese culture. I love showing how these relationships change with the times.”

My creative space
“This is my workspace with three special things which cheer me up. My two- month-old baby boy Seitaro, beloved dogs Chai and Earl and natural light. I work while being surrounded by pleasure, connection and peaceful light which I often visualize on my shoot.”
