We go behind the scenes with Getty Images photographer Matt Cardy at 2014 Crufts Dog Show. Said to be the largest show of its kind in the world, the annual four-day event , features thousands of dogs, with competitors travelling from countries across the globe to take part. Crufts, was first held in 1891 and sees thousands of dogs vie for the coveted title of ‘Best in Show’ which was won this year by Ricky the Standard Poodle.

For the past four days I have had the words from my 3-year-old’s favorite bedtime story going around in my head:

“I love big dogs and small dogs. I love stroppy dogs and soppy dogs.”

That’s because I have been at Crufts which is claimed to be the world’s largest dog show and having walked many miles through multiple halls to see thousands of dogs, of all different shapes and sizes, colour and breed, over those days I can certainly believe it!

Luckily, I am a big dog lover, having grown up with and owned several of my own. So I can really understand the bond people form with their four legged friend, be that a Chihuahua or a Great Dane and the pride they must take in being able to show them at such a prestigious event. As a photographer and a dog lover, I found the four days most enjoyable and really relished being able to capture it.

Here is a selection of my images from the 2014 event:
